Currently, Wendy Ortega is a research professor at Tecnológico de Monterrey, Campus Monterrey. She received a grade in chemistry at Benemerita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla, an MSc in ceramics engineering at Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León. Later, she enrolled in a Ph.D. of metallurgy and ceramic engineering with an academic stay in the University of Cambridge and Addenbrooks Hospital developing new bioceramics for bone regeneration.

In 2011, Dr. Ortega joined as a postdoctoral in Nanotechnology and Medical Devices group at Tecnológico de Monterrey, Campus Monterrey, and as a professor in the Chemistry Department. Since 2016, she is a research professor at Tecnológico de Monterrey, and a professor of the Chemistry Department and Biomedical Engineer Department.

She is a member of the Mexican Research National System, since 2013, and of the Nanosciences and Nanotechnology Mexican Net. Her research activities focused on multidisciplinary projects related materials synthesis and manufacture techniques for medical devices, photocatalytic materials synthesis, and reinforced biopolymers.
