Pedro Ponce obtains his master's and doctorate in Electrical Engineering and Control Systems from the Instituto Politecnico Nacional. He is an expert in automation systems, electrical machines, power electronics, continuous and discrete control, expert systems, neural networks, fuzzy logic, artificial biological systems and evolutionary systems. He is a member of the National System of Researchers Level I. He has certifications by several international companies and institutes, among which stand out: National Instruments, Motorola, Texas Instruments, Siemens, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has completed 5 research stays at Arizona State University, one at Siegen University and one more at the University of California Berkeley. It has more than 90 publications, 12 published books, 10 book chapters and 24 patent applications, which one of them is international and already granted. He is currently a leader in two subprojects that are part of the Binational Laboratory for the Intelligent Management of Energy Sustainability and Technological Training: Advanced technologies to enable a high introduction of renewable resources in distribution systems and micro grids, and Smart-Grid virtual laboratory.
