Oliver Probst Oleszewski, Ph.D.

Professor

Research Areas:

  • Wind resource assessment and modeling
  • Small wind turbine technology
  • Aerodynamics and aeroelasticity
  • Grid integration of renewable energy

Oliver Probst received his diploma in physics (Dipl.Phys.) from the University of Heidelberg, Germany, in 1990, and his Ph.D. in Natural Sciences / Physics in 1994, also from the University of Heidelberg.   He has been a professor of physics and renewable energy at Tecnológico de Monterrey (Mexico) since 1996 and a wind energy consultant. He has served as an advisor of about 1,500MW of operating commercial wind farms in Mexico and the US, and is currently involved in a portfolio of new wind farm projects; he also provides support for some of the projects developed in the past. His expertise includes regulatory analysis, grid connection, offtake analysis, permitting, and wind resource assessment.

His group at Tecnológico de Monterrey is involved in small wind turbine technology and structural dynamics of wind turbine blades. It participates in the Mexican Center for Innovation in Wind Energy with projects on control and rotor aerodynamics, as well as the Mexican Center for Smart Grids with a project on wind power forecasting. Oliver Probst is part of Mexico´s National Researchers System (level II) and maintains a large network of collaborations with former students, entrepreneurs, and researchers.

Dr. Probst is the founding director of the Master of Science program in Engineering Sciences covering (1) Clean Energy and Sustainable Water Use, (2) Mechatronics and Advanced Manufacturing, (3) Telecommunications, (4) Industrial Engineering. He also currently serves as the Chair of the Master of Science program on Manufacturing Systems with the following research lines: (1) Product Design and Innovation, (2) Advanced Materials, (3) Automation of Manufacturing Systems, (4) Production Engineering. Both M.Sc. programs are accredited before Mexico’s National postgraduate accreditation system PNPC.
