Research Areas:

  • Machine learning
  • Pattern recognition
  • Data mining
  • Fingerprint and palmprint recognition

Miguel Ángel Medina received the B.S. and M.S. degrees from the University of Ciego de Ávila, Cuba, in 2007, and the Ph.D. degree in 2014 from the National Institute of Astrophysics, Optics and Electronics (INAOE), Mexico.

Miguel Ángel Medina has developed software to solve pattern recognition problems. A successful example is the palmprint matching algorithm which won the 2nd place (according to EER) in the international competition FVC-onGoing. He also developed a fingerprint verification framework in C# available at www.codeproject.com/Articles/97590/A-Framework-in-C-for-Fingerprint-Verification which got the prize winner in competition "Best C# article of July 2010" at www.codeproject.com, and it had over a hundred thousand views and more than ten thousand downloads within two years.

He has been involved in several research projects about pattern recognition, and has published several papers in referenced journals such as "Information Sciences", "Knowledge-Based Systems", "Neurocomputing", "Soft Computing", "IEEE Transactions on Information Forensics and Security", and "Pattern Recognition".
