Luis E. Garza received the B.S. degree in electronics systems engineering and the M.S. degree in control engineering both from Tecnológico de Monterrey, in 1986 and 1988, respectively. He also obtained the Ph.D. degree in artificial intelligence from Tecnológico de Monterrey, in 2001.

In 2004, Luis E. Garza joined the Mechatronics and Automation Department at Tecnológico de Monterrey, where he was appointed associate professor in 2011. At present, he is a member of the research group in Robotics. He has been a member of the Mexican Research National System from 2005 to 2010 and since 2016. His research activities include unmanned aerial & aquatic vehicles control, smart grids, water systems leak detection, fault tolerant control, smart embedded systems applications and design.

He was the leader of the Supervision and Advanced Control research group from 2010-2014. His academic leadership at Tecnológico de Monterrey has been awarded with Teaching Awards in 2009, 2011 and 2014. He received the award to the “professor who left a mark”, from the Community of Former Students of Tecnológico de Monterrey, in May of 2013.
