Juan C. Amador Molina, Ph.D.

Assistant Professor

Research Areas:

  • Study of biomarkers in cancer
  • Identification of miRNA in pathologies
  • Nanotechnologies in diagnosis

Dr. Juan Carlos Amador Molina works as a research professor at Tecnológico de Monterrey (State of Mexico campus), where he’s also part of the Focus Group of Bioprocesses and Synthetic Biology. He belongs to the National System of Researchers (Mexico-CONACyT). He possess a bachelor’s degree in industrial pharmaceutical chemistry (2000), a master’s degree in immunology (2006), and a Ph.D. in biomedicine and molecular biotechnology (2010), all of them were granted by the National Polytechnic Institute in Mexico.

Before he began his postgraduate studies, he was working in the pharmaceutic industry, first as an analytical chemist, and then as a production supervisor. He did a research visit twice (2007 and 2009) at Colorado State University, USA. He also did a postdoctoral stay at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in USA (2011 – 2013). He has participated in student projects and has been instructor of representative teams of synthetic biology of TecCEM, participating in international competitions.

During the postgraduate studies and the postdoctoral visit, Dr. Amador worked with serologic and molecular diagnosis of mycobacteria, examining different patterns of such assays, and proposing methods of differential diagnosis. Additionally, he was involved in a FDA study to evaluate the immunologic and molecular stability of vaccines against anthrax and pertussis.

As a researcher, he is evaluating the impact of different SNPs in key genes among patients with cervical cancer, identification and evaluation of useful biomarkers in cancer, and the design and functionalization of nanomaterials as diagnostic tools.
