Jorge Armando Cortés Ramírez, Ph.D.

Associate Professor

Research Areas:

  • Characterization of materials and industrial processes
  • Modeling of nano and micro phenomena in advanced materials during application
  • Design of medical devices
  • Entrepreneurship

Jorge Armando Cortés received the B.S. degree in metallurgy engineering and the M.S. physical metallurgy degree both from Instituto Politécnico Nacional in 1982 and 1985, respectively. He obtained the Ph.D. in engineering degree in mechanical metallurgy with focus on modelling and properties prediction from the Hiroshima University, in 1993.

In 1993, Jorge Cortés joined the Manufacture Center at Tecnológico de Monterrey, where he was appointed research professor. At present, he is member of the research group in Product Innovation into the School of Science and Engineering. He is a member of the Mexican Research National System since 1997 and the Mexican Academy of Engineering since 2017. His research activities include manufacture processes, modeling of micro and nanostructural changes on industrial materials, as well as manufacture, design of advanced materials, and commercialization of medical devices.

Jorge Cortés founded the Medical Devices Laboratory in 2007 and registered 20 related patents. He has founded three companies of medical devices together with his students in 2008, 2014 and 2015. As a member of the American Society of Biomaterials, SFB, has conducted a series of National and International conferences in Asia (Japan, China), Europe (Spain, Italy) and America (in addition to Mexico, United States of America, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica and Panama). He is a consultant in the Argentina National Agency for Scientific and Technological Promotion, but has been at several industries. Recently, he has made research stays at Spain, Poland and Japan, and obtained different distinctions for the development of innovative technologies in international congresses and government programs.
