Dorilian López Mago, Ph.D.

Assistant Professor

Research Areas:

  • Experimental optics and photonics
  • Quantum optical coherence tomography
  • Structured light and its applications

Dorilian López-Mago received the BS degree in physics engineering and the PhD degree in information technologies and communications with major in optics, both from Tecnológico de Monterrey, in 2008 and 2012, respectively. From 2013 to 2014 he was a postdoctoral researcher in the Photonics Laboratory at ETH Zurich, Switzerland. After his postdoc, he started as a research professor at Tecnológico de Monterrey.

At the beginning of his PhD, he joined the Photonics and Mathematical Optics Group to start his journey in the world of optics under the supervision of Prof. Julio C. Gutiérrez Vega. From 2011 to 2012, he was a visiting student in the nano-optics group of Prof. Lukas Novotny in the University of Rochester. After obtaining his PhD degree, he returned as a postdoctoral researcher to Novotny’s group (which moved to ETH Zurich).

He is the leader of an experimental group working in the following projects: development of a quantum-optical coherence tomography system, optical elements for terahertz manipulation by 3D printing, measurement of polarization properties of birefringent materials using geometric phases, generation of entangled Poincaré photons, generation of Full Poincaré patterns using map projections.

He is a member level 1 of the National System of Researchers since 2013. Currently, he is responsible of two projects funded by CONACYT. A basic science grant for the project named Quantum Optical Coherence Tomography and an Associate National Laboratory Grant for the project in quantum optics. He is also part of the national quantum information division and active member of international societies such as the Optical Society of America (OSA) and the International society of optics and photonics (SPIE).
