Carlos Renato Vázquez received the B.S. degree in mechanical-electrical engineering from Universidad de Guadalajara, Mexico, in 2004; the Sc.M. degree in electrical engineering with specialty on automatic control from CINVESTAV, Mexico, in 2006; the Sc.M. degree in industrial technologies with specialty on mechanics from UNED, Spain, in 2016; and the Ph.D. degree in systems engineering from Universidad de Zaragoza, Spain, in 2011. He performed doctoral research stays at the Ghent University, Belgium, in 2009, and at CWI, Netherlands, in 2010.

In 2012, Carlos Renato Vázquez was appointed professor at Universidad de Guadalajara, where he founded a master program in mechatronic engineering. Since 2005, Carlos Renato Vázquez is a professor at Tecnológico de Monterrey, where he participates in the mechatronics and electronic technologies programs, giving lectures on control systems and mechanisms. Furthermore, he participates in the master program in embedded systems, giving lectures on stochastic systems and control.

Carlos Renato Vázquez is a member of the Mexican Research National System since 2012. He is author of more than thirty research works, among papers published in international journals, papers presented in international conferences, and research-book chapters. His research activities include modelling, analysis and control of Petri nets and hybrid dynamical systems, with applications to embedded systems, robotics, electromechanical control systems and industrial automation. He has participated in different research and technology development projects, performing tasks like the thermal modelling and task scheduling in MPSoC electronic systems, the control synthesis for BLDC and linear induction motors for electrical vehicles, among others.
