Blas Manuel Rodríguez Lara, Ph.D.

Research Areas:

  • Quantum optics
  • Optical physics
  • Photonic integrated circuits

Blas received his BSc degree in industrial physics engineering from Tecnológico de Monterrey in 1999. He obtained two MSc degrees, in optics and in quantum mechanics from Instituto Nacional de Astrofísica, Óptica y Electrónica (INAOE, Mexico) in 2002, and Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan (KTH, Sweden) in 2004, respectively. He received his PhD in optics from INAOE in 2005. He was a visiting researcher at the Research Centre for Quantum Information in the Slovenská Akadémia Vied (RCQI, SAV, Slovakia) from 2006 to 2007. He was a postdoctoral researcher at Instituto de Física, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (IF-UNAM, Mexico, 2007-2009), Institute of Photonic Technologies, National Tsing Hua University (NTHU, Taiwan, 2009-2010), Centre for Quantum Technologies, National University of Singapore (CQT, NUS, 2010-2012), and at the Physics Department, Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG, Brazil, 2012).

In 2012, Blas joined INAOE’s Optics Department as Researcher. He found INAOE’s Nuevo León unit and leads its Hybrid Devices Group. He is a founding member of CONACYT’s Consorcio en Óptica Aplicada. In 2016, he joined the Mathematical Optics and Photonics Group at Tecnológico de Monterrey. He is currently an Investigador Nacional Nivel 2, and has been a member of the Sistema Nacional de Investigadores (SNI) since 2005. His research activities include the quantum and classical simulation of exotic physics, the use of symmetries in the design of classical and quantum devices. In general, he is interested in the use of symmetries to design hybrid devices using optics, mechanics, and electronics.
