Alfonso Gómez-Espinosa received the BSc in Physics from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México in 1988, the MSc with honors in Instrumentation and Automatic Control and the PhD with honors in Mechatronics Engineering both from the Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro, in 1999 and 2013, respectively.

From 1988 to 1992, he worked as Service Engineer and “Bajio” Regional Manager for AEG Mexicana and Telemecanique, and lectured at Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro. From 1992 to 2009 he worked as Control System Researcher for CONDUMEX Research and Development Center. From 2009 to 2015 he worked as Mechatronics Professor Researcher at Engineering and Industrial Development Center (CIDESI), and lectured at Tecnológico de Monterrey, Campus Querétaro.

In 2015, Alfonso Gómez-Espinosa joined the Electrical Engineering Department at Tecnológico de Monterrey Campus Querétaro as Professor Researcher. At present, he is a member of the Research Group in Advanced Manufacturing MTY. He is member of the Mexican Research National System since 2015. His research interests and activities include Advanced Control for Non Liner Systems and Intelligent Systems. 

Alfonso Gómez-Espinosa received the Mexico City Engineering Award in 2012 and the PMP certification in 2010. He has written several international research papers
